Put immediate safety first

Fire, smoke or immediate danger means leave safely and call 9-1-1. Sprinkler discharge may be associated with a fire; do not label it accidental before it has been assessed. Follow emergency direction and the property’s established response plan.

Do not improvise system control

This guide does not tell you to shut a valve, silence an alarm, drain piping, reset equipment or restore service. Those actions can affect protection beyond the visible event. Use authorized qualified personnel for the actual system. A web enquiry is not emergency dispatch.

Record observations when safe

• Time and area observed.
• Whether the concern remains active.
• What was seen, without an unconfirmed cause.
• Qualified or emergency contacts notified.
• Relevant incident, report or work-order references.

Do not approach danger to photograph equipment. Avoid posting occupants’ information or security-sensitive images publicly.

Keep restoration and cause connected

Ask the provider to explain the repair scope, the evidence of restored service and any remaining investigation. Damage repair to ceilings or finishes is a separate question from fire-protection repair. Connect the work records rather than assuming one contractor resolved both.

Prepare the non-emergency follow-up

After the immediate response, keep the event record, service documents and unresolved questions together. A routine enquiry can request review of a past report, a planned repair or follow-up coordination. State that the emergency phase has already been handled where that is the case.
