Describe what is stored and how

Record the general goods and packaging, storage arrangement and planned operational changes for the qualified team. Do not use an online property label to select a hazard classification or sprinkler configuration. Detailed design information and actual storage conditions need professional assessment.

When leasing space, ask for relevant building records before assuming it suits your intended use. The landlord’s former operation may not resemble your proposed operation.

Bring racking and layout changes forward

Discuss new racking, mezzanines, enclosures, equipment and aisle changes before installation. Ask who assesses effects on protection and which drawings need updating. Keep the qualified designer and sprinkler provider connected to the warehouse planning team.

Identify cold and special areas

• Loading and exterior transitions.
• Unheated or temperature-controlled areas.
• Areas with different system types.
• Special process or material concerns.
• Connected pump, detection or water-supply equipment.

Different areas may involve different service and design questions. Name those boundaries rather than applying one general description to the whole facility.

Keep operations and service coordinated

Plan safe access, escorts and any agreed working-hour constraints. Ask qualified personnel to explain authorized interruptions and protection arrangements. Operations staff should know whom to contact about a change or concern; they should not improvise sprinkler operating instructions.

For reports, assign a follow-up owner and keep completion evidence linked to each finding.

A useful first conversation

State the municipality, facility use, planned change or service need and available records. Share only a general operational description initially. Sensitive processes, layouts and access details should use a suitable channel agreed with the provider.
