Start with relevant experience

Ask who will do the work, what qualifications and provincial requirements apply, and what experience the team has with the actual system or project type. A trade description is not proof of a company’s credentials. Verify the relevant information through the appropriate issuer or authority.

Establish responsibility

• Who supplies the design or assessment?
• Who handles permits and authority communication?
• Which connected trades and equipment are included?
• Who coordinates access and authorized interruptions?
• Who supplies final records and follow-up?

Make exclusions readable

Ask for a written scope with exclusions, allowances and unknown conditions. Request the process for approving additional work. If a price depends on drawings or access not yet confirmed, keep that qualification visible. Do not compare preliminary and complete scopes as if they were identical.

Ask what completion looks like

Before award, establish applicable testing, report format, final drawings and other closeout items. Ask how the work will be tied to an existing finding or project requirement. A clear completion list gives both parties a better basis for the final handoff.
